My dear brothers and sisters, I was shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden and unexpected death of your parish priest, Fr Tom Heneghan last Wednesday morning.
He was a first class priest, a wonderful example to us all of total dedication to his vocation to be the shepherd and father of the people he was sent to serve. He will be greatly missed by you his parishioners, his family and his brother priests in the Archdiocese and beyond.
I offered Mass for Fr Tom last Thursday and Mass for you all and his family on Saturday. I will be keeping him, his family and all of you in my prayers in the coming days. I have no doubt that as he meets the Lord he served so faithfully for forty years, both here and in Equador, he will be greeted with the words: “Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the Kingdom prepared for you.” May he rest in peace.
I also want to thank the Jesuit Fathers who are celebrating the Masses
with you this weekend and for all their help to Fr Tom in the past. May God be with you all.
