Altar Servers

Would you like to help out with the Masses at Corpus Christi?

Would you like to become an altar server?

There are over 100 altar servers in our Parish ranging from 9 year olds to adults. We are members of the Guild of St Stephen and try to celebrate his feast each year – 26th December with mass and a party for the servers.

At Corpus Christi Parish we always welcome new altar servers! There are only two requirements we ask from potential applicants: first, to have received Holy Communion; and second, enthusiasm and a keen interest in being an altar server! At Corpus Christi we believe this is a very important contribution to Parish life, for it helps parishioners to better celebrate the Eucharist. It also provides the servers an opportunity to participate more closely in Mass, following Jesus’ example: ‘just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life in ransom for many’ (Mt 20, 28)

So what to do now if you fulfill the requirements? The easiest way is to ask for an application form from the Priest’s house or from the repository, fill it in and drop it off either at the Priest’s house, or with Joseph in the repository or with Pedro who is usually around at the beginning of all the weekend Masses. Pedro will call you back as soon as possible with more details about the different training sessions that are run throughout the year.

The current Altar servers’ rota is up in the servers’ sacristy and if you need to find out which week the rota is on, you can always check the back of the parish newsletter.

Look forward to meeting you!

Pedro

Prayer of the Altar Server

Loving Father, creator of the universe, you call your people to worship, to be with you and one another at Mass. I thank you for having called me to assist others in their prayer to you. May I be worthy of the trust placed in me and through my example and service bring others closer to you. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, who is Lord forever and ever. Amen.
